Charles E. West
Biography
Charles Edwin West was born, raised, and educated in Massachusetts. He attended a couple of grad schools in New York. He thought about becoming a lawyer, but the field of education piqued his interest. He taught for many years. With the recruitment of 50 boys, he began a school of Classical studies. He was keenly interested in providing educational opportunities for females. He was the principal of Buffalo Female Academy and was instrumental in opening up classes in the sciences at Rutgers for females. For the last 29 years of his career, he was the principal of Brooklyn Heights Seminary. West was born in 1809. He and his wife raised six children. On March 9, 1900, West passed away.Wailand Groenendyk
